Spotlight

The big news

  • Some of you may have seen the announcement in the McGill Reporter this spring - Curbcut is building a nation-wide platform called the Canadian Housing Observatory (CHO)!
    • CHO is designed to make housing-related data easier to access, understand, and use. The beta version of the platform is online and ready to explore.
      • Our goals with CHO are to:
        • Centralize fragmented data.
        • Provide an intuitive tool for exploring, filtering, and exporting.
        • Empower stakeholders with relevant, local housing insights.
    • We’re continuing to improve it with the full launch planned in early 2026.

New Features

The team is constantly improving the Curbcut experience

  • To support our growing reach and user base, we’ve upgraded our underlying technology behind all Curbcut platforms. These improvements mean:
    • Faster load times.
    • Sharper, more interactive graphics.
    • A smoother user experience across devices.
    • A stronger foundation for new features like AI-assisted chat, map downloads, and improved search.
  • These upgrades are currently in beta on the CHO platform. You’re among the first to benefit from them and your feedback will help us refine the experience.

Organizational Updates

What's going on in and around Curbcut

  • We had a great time at the FCM conference in May, where we hosted a booth for CHO and connected with lots of enthusiastic city councillors from across the country.
  • This summer, a team of student interns is taking on the ambitious and impressive task of collecting zoning data from across the country to build one of the most comprehensive nation-wide databases of its kind.
  • The Curbcut team is growing! We’re excited to welcome two new full-time members.
    • Oussama Trebelsi joins us as our new Data Lead. With a background in urban studies and experience in social data analysis at the City of Montreal, he’s already playing a key role on the CHO project and brings a thoughtful, collaborative energy to the team.
    • Nicholas Foisy is our new Full-Stack Web Developer. After interning with us for the past year, he’s now on board full-time following his graduation from McGill in Computer Science. Nicolas brings a curious mind and a sharp problem-solving mindset that pushes our work forward.
