Curbcut worked with the British Columbia Ministry of Housing on a SaaS project to develop instances of the Curbcut geovisualization and analysis platform for five municipalities across the province. This partnership began in early 2023 and ended in 2024. The Ministry of Housing recognized that municipalities require access to data and analysis on a range of urban sustainability indicators but frequently lack the in-house expertise to undertake this analysis on their own. Curbcut delivered platforms for Vancouver, Kelowna, Comox Valley, Prince George, and Fraser Valley.
In addition to the five platforms, the Ministry of Housing mandated Curbcut to provide scenario modeling of Provincial Bill 44, the Small-Scale, Multi-Unit Housing (SSMUH) legislation. The SSMUH’s goal is to increase housing supply, create more diverse housing choices, and contribute to more affordable housing across BC. Curbcut alongside research assistants at McGill University, created visualizations of current land-use zoning for the five municipalities as well as scenario modeling potential outcomes of Bill 44. Interactive maps were integrated into the platforms that allowed users to view multiple different scenarios.
